Half of the people I know thinks that a photography is really good if the object required is in focus and other things are blurred.
This is actually achieved through keeping the shallow depth of field through wide aparture of the lens.
Like in below example, where only small part is in focus, it is a photo of a wall taken with Canon 1200D.
However many mobile companies are now providing portrait modes where the person is identified through some software and keeps it in focus and other details in blurred condition. Though things are in same plane but blurred which is not an example of shallow depth of field.
